The TQC Sheen Bresle Kit – Chloride Test Kit is a complete inspection solution designed to detect soluble salt contamination on prepared metal surfaces before coating application. Soluble salts such as chlorides, sulphates and nitrates can remain on blast-cleaned surfaces even when they appear visually clean. If these contaminants are trapped beneath a coating, they can attract moisture and lead to premature corrosion, blistering or coating failure.
Using the Bresle method, inspectors can extract soluble salts from the surface using a sealed patch and test solution. The extracted liquid is then analysed with a conductivity meter to determine the concentration of dissolved salts, expressed in milligrams per square meter.
This test kit provides all the necessary equipment to perform the Bresle test according to internationally recognised surface cleanliness standards. It is widely used in industries such as marine coatings, protective coatings, offshore structures and pipeline protection where proper surface preparation is critical for coating performance.

How It Works
- Apply a Bresle patch to the prepared surface to create a sealed test area.
- Inject a measured amount of deionised water into the patch using a syringe.
- Gently circulate the water inside the patch to dissolve any soluble salts present on the surface.
- Extract the test solution from the patch.
- Measure the conductivity of the solution using the digital conductivity meter.
- Convert the conductivity value to salt concentration (mg/m²) using the Bresle calculation method.
- Compare the result with project specifications or coating standards.
